QUICK START

Install a skill. Get to work.

Already using Codex or Claude Code? Choose an installation method, then name your skill and task in a conversation.

01 / INSTALL

Use the standard installer

You need Node.js, npm and an internet connection. The installer guides you through the target agent and installation location. Review the skill selection before installing.

Install all skills
npx skills add iannil/skills --skill '*'

Or install just the skill your task needs:

Example · install the fiction skill
npx skills add iannil/skills --skill write-webnovel

Skill loading varies by agent. After installation, follow your tool’s instructions to reload skills or start a new session.

02 / LOCAL CHECKOUT

Install locally; work offline after cloning

This route requires Git and Bash, without Node.js. Cloning needs a network connection; the installation script then runs from your local checkout.

Get the repository
git clone https://github.com/iannil/skills.git
cd skills

Codex

~/.codex/skills
./install.sh --agent codex

Claude Code

~/.claude/skills
./install.sh

To install for both agents, use ./install.sh --agent all. Preview the changes first:

Preview only
./install.sh --agent all --dry-run

To select individual skills, append their names:

Example · install two skills
./install.sh --agent codex write-webnovel novel-prose-readability

03 / PUT IT TO WORK

Name the skill and the task

Provide the material location, desired result and scope of changes. A skill supplies a method; your agent still needs context.

Example prompt
Use write-webnovel. Read the story notes and last three chapters.
Check character and plot continuity, then write the next chapter.
Add a new chapter without changing the existing prose.

04 / KEEP IT CURRENT

Updates & common questions

For a local installation, pull updates inside the original skills checkout, then rerun the same installation command. Reinstallation overwrites target skill files; back up any personal edits first.

Update example · Codex
git pull
./install.sh --agent codex

If you used the standard installer, rerun the relevant install command and review its update prompts.

Is a skill an app or a model?

It is a working guide with supporting material for a compatible agent to read and execute. It does not include a standalone model.

Can I install just one skill?

Yes. Each detail page provides an individual install command. Some engineering skills hand off to others; read the repository’s workflow notes before using the full chain.

What if the agent does not recognize it?

Check that you installed for the correct agent and that its target directory contains the SKILL.md. Reload as your tool requires, then use the complete skill name in your prompt.

Where are the license and full methods?

The repository uses the MIT license. Full methods, supporting material and current installation instructions are on GitHub. iannil/skills ↗
